There is a wide variation of normal appearance when it comes to the labia majora and minora. It is important to understand that differences in length and pigmentation are typically different variations of normal anatomy. When it comes to labiaplasty, the goal is typically a reduction of the labia minora, and/or majora, to effect a “neater” or smaller appearance, and provide as much symmetry as possible. Preferences or goals can vary widely among different parts of the world or different cultures, and choosing to have a labiaplasty is based on the aesthetic taste of each individual.
Labiaplasty most commonly refers to reduction of the labia minora, but can be used to refer to reduction of the labia majora as well. If there is clitoral hood excess present, that area may be addressed at the same time, to maintain a harmonious appearance with the labia.

During your consultation, Dr. Anita will take time to learn more about your motivations and goals, understand your concerns, and discuss the treatment in detail. She will go through your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine the best plan to reach your goals, and make sure you are a good candidate for surgery. Dr. Anita will also explain the different techniques for labiaplasty, and the reasoning behind her preferred technique.
The day of surgery, Dr. Anita will meet with you in the pre-operative area, review the planned procedure and goals, and go over any additional questions you may have. The surgical markings for this procedure are done in the operating room to allow for appropriate positioning. Based on the type of anesthesia chosen, the markings may be drawn with the patient awake, or asleep.
All sutures are absorbable, and will not need to be removed. It is advised to rinse the area with water (using bulb syringe provided), and pat dry (rather than wiping toilet paper along incisions), after voiding, for at least the first week after surgery. Dr. Anita will see you for the first postoperative visit 1-2 days after surgery. Additional postoperative visits are typically spaced at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery.
Female rejuvenation surgery can refer to a variety of procedures, from external procedures such as reduction of the labia minora, labia majora, and/or clitoral hood, to internal procedures such as vaginal tightening.
Labiaplasty surgery most commonly refers to surgical reduction of labia minora, though it can also mean surgical reduction of the labia majora. The labia (outer tissue) and the vagina (internal canal) are not the same thing, so it is important to note labiaplasty is not technically a vaginal surgery.
The labia grow due to hormonal changes during puberty, and can also change during pregnancy.
The labia majora can be made smaller through a single surgical procedure to remove the excess skin permanently. Alternatively, the labia majora may respond well to nonsurgical tightening methods such as radiofrequency skin tightening, which gradually plumps collagen and tightens skin, and requires a series of treatments.
Labiaplasty surgery has a high satisfaction rate, and patients report improved self esteem, less embarrassment in certain types of clothing or with intimate partners, and even greater sexual satisfaction.
Labiaplasty has become a very common procedure, mainly due to increased awareness that it is an option, as well as change in pubic hairstyles and prevalence of certain looks
Plastic surgeons and gynecologic surgeons both perform labiaplasty procedures, and the techniques used vary surgeon to surgeon.
