During your consultation, Dr. Patel will take time to learn more about your concerns and goals, and discuss the treatment options in detail. She will go through your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine the best plan to reach your goals, and make sure you are a good candidate for surgery.
The day of surgery, Dr. Patel will meet with you in the preoperative area, review the planned procedure, and go over any additional questions you may have prior to surgery.
After surgery, you will be provided with postoperative care instructions, and instructions for followup. Dr. Patel will see you for the first postoperative visit 1-2 days after surgery, with an additional visit the week after for suture removal if appropriate. Additional postoperative visits are typically spaced at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery.
Using one’s own tissues, such as with a dermal fat graft, can provide a more permanent plumping of the lips.
Dermat fat grafting to the lips (using the deeper part of skin and underlying fat from another site on the body like an old scar) or fat grafting to the lips can make them thicker or plumper.
Lip lifting shortens the distance from the base of the nose to the upper lip border, increasing upper tooth show and typically providing a rejuvenated or more youthful appearance.
Surgical reduction of the lips can make lips thinner permanently. It involves an incision that is designed to be hidden, and excess tissue is removed.
The pair of lines, or ridges, between the nose and lips are called the philtral columns.
The amount of space between the nose and lip that is considered normal is approximately 18-22 mm in women and 20-24 mm in men.
The philtrum is the groove above your Cupid’s bow, and a normal anatomical structure. It is not a structure to be removed, but it can be shortened in the case of a lip lift.
