Nipple reconstruction can typically be performed from a procedure in which adjacent skin is rearranged in a specific way to form a nipple, as well as the borders of the areola. Pigment can later be filled in with tattooing. Both nipple reconstruction and nipple tattooing can be performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting.
